Stay updated with Blackfyre on the new Special Item Number (SIN) for shipping containers under the GSA Schedule, enhancing business opportunities in the sector.
As Blackfyre, a GSA Federal Schedule Consulting firm, we strive to keep a pulse on the latest updates and potential changes in the GSA Schedules. An important development we're tuned into is the introduction of a new Special Item Number (SIN) for shipping containers under the GSA Shipping, Packaging, and Packing Supplies Schedule 81 I B Contract. The addition of this SIN could significantly augment the scope and utility of the Schedule 81 I B, catering to a wider array of customer needs. Here's our take on the proposed SIN and its implications for contractors and government buyers.
The proposed SIN, numbered 617-14 and specifically dealing with Shipping Containers, includes a broad array of container types and sizes. From intermodal and cargo/freight containers to more specialized incarnations like collapsible/inflatable flat pack shipping containers, no distinct category is left out.
The draft SIN draft shows no limitations on the use of circumstances for the shipping containers, citing that they could be sold for either routine use, intermittent use, or for emergency situations necessitating disaster shipments.
Notably, the SIN would also encompass associated services like the installation, operation, and/or maintenance of these shipping containers. This package would therefore provide comprehensive solutions to government buyers.
The proposed SIN would be associated with the already existing NAICS Code 322211 (Corrugated and Solid Fiber Box Manufacturing), and interestingly introduce a new addition - NAICS Code 332439 (Other Metal Container Manufacturing).
From our interpretation, there are a number of implications for the different stakeholders involved. Here's are a few takeaways for Potential Contractors and Government Buyers:
Under the proposed change, the previous scope would be modified from "Maintenance, Repair and Modification of Containers" to "Modification/Repair/Customization of Containers," giving room for more specialized customization for specific functionalities.
We understand that with every proposal, comes the potential need for guidance and assistance. Blackfyre is equipped to provide a comprehensive package to help navigate the updates:
