The Convergence of Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, and Health IT

Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, and Health IT are three thriving markets that have prompted significant adjustments to the $14 billion GSA IT Schedule 70 Contract. These adjustments aim to better align Schedule 70 with the evolving needs of government agencies.

Introducing Dedicated SINs

As with all GSA Schedules, Schedule 70 is organized into Special Item Numbers (SINs) that categorize the offerings within the GSA Schedules Program. Recognizing the growing demand in Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, and Health IT, GSA has made the strategic decision to create new dedicated SINs within Schedule 70 tailored to these markets.

Benefits for Companies Pursuing Dedicated SINs

Companies venturing into these new SINs could gain several advantages, including:

  • Enhanced Visibility: Customer agencies will have a clear path to companies specializing in Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, or Health IT solutions.
  • Deeper Market Insights: Contractors will be required to report sales by SIN, facilitating more comprehensive reporting and allowing for the distinction of sales in these specialized areas from other offerings.
  • Expanded Market: By introducing dedicated SINs, GSA aims to position Schedule 70 as the primary resource for the federal government's Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, and Health IT requirements. The ultimate goal is to increase the utilization of the GSA Schedule 70 Contract and reduce reliance on individual agency contracts.

The Current Status

As of now, the Cloud Computing SIN is the only one officially launched, while Cybersecurity and Health IT SINs are still in progress. Here is a snapshot of the details for each market:

  1. Cloud Computing: SIN 132-40, Cloud Computing Services, was introduced in April 2015, encompassing Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS), and Emerging Cloud Services. Seven companies currently offer solutions under this SIN.
  2. Cybersecurity: Progress on the Cybersecurity SIN has been slower. GSA initiated discussions in 2015, but there have been no significant updates since. A decision on its launch is anticipated in the coming months.
  3. Health IT: After reviewing feedback from an RFI issued in 2015, GSA is moving forward with plans to introduce a Health IT SIN to Schedule 70. The draft solicitation was scheduled to be posted in May 2016.
